Richard Thomas wants pardon, claims he was victim of conspiracy as Mount Vernon mayor
Former Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas is seeking a pardon from Gov. Kathy Hochul for the misdemeanor campaign-finance convictions that forced him from office three years ago.
In a wide-ranging, conspiracy-laden submission, Thomas expounds on the claims he has made since his arrest in 2018 and his guilty plea the following year: that he was denied due process and was the victim of an effort by top state officials to protect the political establishment in Mount Vernon because of corruption allegations Thomas made against prior administrations and fellow Democratic officials.
"What they did to me set off a series of events that seriously damaged Mount Vernon fiscally," Thomas said Friday. "(The prosecution) did not have to happen and they ignored all the real problems in the city."
